Do Not Forget Your Mother

Do not forget your mother
as you shuffle off this mortal coil
and descend into dirt.

Do not forget the stray light ladder
of her golden hair
as it grays like moss in dusk
on a deserted cottage door.

Do not forget the sound
you never heard
her prideful sobs
as she illuminated her universe
and shuttered her windows
for you.

Do not forget
the wishes you never granted
as she closed her tearful eyes
to dream once more
of you.
